This year, Reflections on the Chain is celebrating five years of charity public art programs. In previous years, the program has showcased sculptures of dogs, bears, beach chairs and treasure chests. In 2014, mirrors are the center of attention.
Each of the 50 mirrors will be designed by talented artists in the Antioch area. The mirrors are 24-inches by 30-inches and are going to be displayed in the businesses that sponsor them. It costs $300 to sponsor a mirror. The mirrors will be auctioned off at the end of the display and all the proceeds go to Open Arms Mission. In the past five years, over $68,000 has been raised for charity.
Artists will submit their designs for approval and then begin working on the mirrors for the display. Themes this year may include patriotism, Antioch history and sports. These themes have been used in the past and were very popular with the public. The frames of the mirrors can be altered to add to the artists’ design.
Short biographies of all the artists will be posted on the Reflections website. The artists themselves will be appearing at local Public Art Events as well as the Dinner Auction in the fall.
Each mirror will be accompanied by a plaque describing both the sponsor and the artist. The public will have many opportunities to see the mirrors on display through contests and other events.
Interested artists should submit designs soon to allow for sponsors to be found. The end of the display is September 12 at the dinner auction.
