From the Harry Potter series, comes the fictional game of Quidditch, where players ride around on broomsticks and try to score points. It is a co-ed sport in colleges across the nation today.
Each team has seven players: three chasers, two beaters, a keeper, and the seeker. The job of each chaser is to take a volleyball called the quaffle, and try to score it into one of the opponent’s three hoops, while the keeper tries to block the chasers from scoring. The beaters have dodge-balls called blugers, and they try to hit the chasers and disrupt the flow of game-play. Once a chaser gets hit, he or she has to run back to their teams hoops to get back in. The seeker has to look for the snitch, which is a ball attached to the waist of the snitch runner, who is a neutral player. Once the snitch has been caught, the catching team gets 30 points and ends the game.
Quidditch has become adopted by many universities in America. With teams spanning from the East coast to West the United States Quidditch governs the game throughout the country and holds a multiple events each year. The most recent one was the USQ World Cup 8, which had been covered using Snapchat’s Live Story.
There are no limitations on who can play Quidditch, and the USQ has even created a rule book for high schools!
