Practice Makes Perfect
Did the practice ACT and Plan test really help?
October 14, 2014
This year, like every year, Antioch Community High School juniors took the practice ACT, sophomores took the PLAN, and the freshman took the EXPLORE. All three tests were taken on Tuesday, Sept. 30, during periods one through three.
This time around, there was a twist. There was a missing page from the juniors’ practice ACT on the English portion of the test. Since there was a missing page, every student had to go back and finish at the very end. Many with flipping back and forth between subjects.
“I didn’t like the practice ACT at all. I felt really rushed with the missing page, there was no prep and I just thought it was unprofessional in general,” said ACHS junior Teah Mulcahy.
Many were unhappy with what happened with the practice ACT, but like the great Billy Mays once said,”But wait, there’s more!”
Not only was there a mistake on the practice ACT, but on the PLAN for the sophomores as well. There was a missing problem in the math section. On top of that, many sophomores complained that it wasn’t taken seriously and there was no warning of the PLAN test.
“No teachers informed us of the PLAN until a few days before it,” said ACHS sophomore Jordan Lanahan.
Following the tests, ACHS Principal Bradford Hubbard sent out a school wide email apologizing for everything that happened throughout the tests.
Although this year’s tests weren’t ran very smoothly, the past year’s apparently have been.
“Last year was good practice,” said ACHS senior Dakota Daniels. “It was a good representation of how we were going to do on the real ACT.”
Maybe there was a hiccup this year, but it is assured these mistakes won’t happen again.
But for the students that took the practice tests this year, was it really practice?
Whatever your score may be, no worries. The official ACT will be in a real test taking environment.
