Packing Tips From a Happy Camper

Be prepared for any misadventure before it begins.

As the word “vacation” floats around in the air, it can be overwhelming to decide what to pack, especially on camping trips. With limited space and a big group, it is best to stick to necessities and only pack what is needed to get by. Start with the essentials.

CLOTHES:

  • One shirt for each day
  • Four pairs of shorts
  • One pair of jeans and sweatpants
  • Two hoodies
  • One swimsuit
  • Plenty of undergarments (underwear, bras, socks)
  • Goggles (optional, but helpful for underwater exploring)
  • Two pairs of pajamas (one set of warm and one set of cool jammies)
  • One rain jacket
  • One button down top
  • One tank top
  • One pair of flip flops
  • One pair of gym shoes
  • Sunglasses

TOILETRIES:

  • One towel
  • Travel size shampoo and conditioner
  • Body wash
  • Razors
  • Deodorant
  • Hairpins and elastics
  • Sunscreen
  • Bandaids
  • Toothpaste, toothbrush, and floss

EXTRAS:

  • Book or journal
  • Pillow and sleeping bag
  • Flashlight
  • Phone and charger (doubles as a camera)
  • Pencils
  • Backpack

FOOD:

  • Granola bars
  • Two refillable water bottles
  • Quick snacks

Junior Ashley Furlan has lots of camp experience through Girl Scouts and recommends a variety of supplies for a quick trip.

“”I typically bring a sleeping bag, clothes, water, fire starters and a first aid kit,” Furlan said. “Also, I pack foods that are really easy to make.”

Junior Kyle Boudreau packs lighter and focus on the fun aspect of packing.

“I would bring a football to play catch with,” Boudreau said.
