Antioch Community High School’s Orchestra and Jazz Band played for parents, friends and fellow students on Thursday, Feb. 12 in ACHS’s auditorium.
The night started off with the Orchestra, led by Michael Riggs. Riggs had three students conduct the concert, sophomore Emily Voykin, sophomore Rachel Rickert and junior Brandon Noble. Voykin started off with the Scottish folk song “Loch Lomond” arranged by Carrie Lane Gruselle. Rickert followed her with “Please Remove Your Veil” arranged by Albert Wang, and Noble Ended Orchestra’s session with “Consternation/Devil in the Strawstack,” arranged by Renata Bratt.
The Jazz band, conducted by Jonathan Untch, soon followed the Orchestra with the pieces: “Granada Smoothie” by Mark Taylor, “Woodchoppers Ball” by Joe Bishop and Woody Herman, “Someone to Watch Over You” by George and Ira Gershwin, featuring senior Morgan Yankee on the tenor sax, the theme from “Sesame Street” arranged by Diblasio and Lowden, “Honey Suckle Rose” by Fats Waller, and “Skyfall” by Adele Adkins and Paul Epworth, featuring senior Kassy Lochhead as a soloist. The group ended with “South 21st Shuffle” by Steve Wiest.
