OPEN LETTER: Sequoits Fly Together
It takes time, but remembering to be positive and positive with those around you is incredibly important.
As they say, birds of a feather flock together, meaning one is who he or she surrounds himself with, including inside the halls of Antioch Community High School.
“I feel as if I’m personally impacting others in a positive way because I’m always trying to make people happy and make people laugh,” sophomore Bobby Wines said. “I love making people smile. I think whenever I’m with my friends I’m assimilating to how they are. I notice people are afraid to go there own way and they are following others ways and letting others lead them.”
Impacting others positively is an important, yet sometimes difficult, attribute to have. When around others, try start to carry their personalities on your shoulder, too. Trends are changing everyday, which means there’s something new in the pop culture or some new drama in the school that everyone is talking about, and it’s hard for high schoolers to not to get wrapped up in it. It seems like second nature that we don’t even realize that what others do affects us and shows us what we “should” be doing since others are doing it, too.
“I try to compliment people rather than bringing them down and start conversations with them I’m always open to new friends,” junior Kory Laur said. “I see a lot of different groups intermixing all the time along with different grade levels, too.”
Helping people keep positive about themselves and other things helps you see the good side of things in the long run. I’m sure you can all think of those kids at lunch who seem to always sit alone, who knows maybe they could be that one friend you’ve been looking for. So next time you walk through the halls, keep in mind that birds of a feather flock together by keeping your eyes peeled for opportunities to make new friends. Surround yourself with like minded people who lift you and encourage you. Always think about treating others the way you want to be treated and kindness is key.
