NWEA Testing Causes Student Wifi To Be Disabled

Standardized testing has caused the student wifi to be down in order to increase signals on Chromebooks.

For most Sequoits, the student wifi is a lifeline to the outside world during the rigorous academic school day. Whether it be students listening to music in the hallways or looking something up for a class, many rely on the school’s wifi to get through their daily life. This week, however, the student wifi continues to be disabled in order to make room for NWEA (Northwest Education Association) testing being conducted at ACHS.

“In order to accommodate for testing, which is typically done on Chromebooks, we allocate as many wifi resources to the Chromebook wifi as possible,” District 117 Desktop Specialist Erik Schevikhoven said.

NWEA is a state test that held several times throughout the school year. To prevent interruption among the students participating in the test, the student wifi access was disabled for the past few days.

“Although not having wifi has made me cut down on the time I use my phone around the school over the past week, I have been able to focus more on my school work, which helps with my AP classes,” senior Thomas Boeh said.

Following the conclusion of testing on Thursday, September 8th, the currently inactive wifi will again be offered to the student body by the end of the week.
