On Wednesday, Oct. 18, the Sequoit field hockey team took on a tough Francis Parker team in the city for an intense playoff game. The Sequoits fell short with a 7-1 loss, ending their 2023 season. The team finished 10-0 in their bracket and overall season, 10-9.
The team fought hard until the end of the game. The score was only 3-1 at halftime. Freshman Scarlett Carroll was able to put the Sequoits on the boards by scoring a phenomenal goal on one of the corners that the team created. The Sequoits never let their energy drop, despite being down throughout the entire game. They played to the standards that Coach Dewing has set for them all season of playing the small game. Allowing the team to keep their spirits up as they knew it was their final game of the season.
The Sequoits had a great season with connecting their passing and moving the game up and down the field, this allowed for scoring opportunities for the whole season. When the lady Sequoits would truly capitalize, they were unstoppable.
The team had incredible chemistry on and off the field this year. Sophomore Addie Webb has loved her experience and cherishes the memories she has made with her teammates. She has expressed that this season is by far her favorite.
“The team was more of a family and my teammates weren’t just my teammates,” Webb said. “They’re also like my best friends.”
Senior captains Jazzy Fisher and Hannah Schaufele led the team this year making sure to maintain a hard working environment while also making sure the team upheld a positive attitude. The two captains have shown this team and program what true leaders look like and how much potential the team has. Sophomore Erika Little had her first varsity experience this year.
“It was great being on such a supportive team,” Little said. “The captains have impacted me in such a positive way by leading the team and being role models on and off the field.”
Considering the impact the seniors have made on the team’s chemistry, they will be missed by the players. The team will continue to strive for greatness putting in their work during their off season allowing them to be ready next fall.
