Each September and February, thousands of fashion fans and aficionados flock to New York City to see the latest collections and fashion trends for the upcoming season. This year, fashion week kicked off with nothing short of disappointment the week of Feb. 11.

Designers came out to New York Fashion Week to show their collections for Fall 2015. Some of the highlights of the first week of NYFW include Alexander Wang’s edgy collection filled with dark colors, leather and studs, Diane Von Furstenburg’s very feminine collection for which model Kendall Jenner walked the runway and BCBG Max Azria’s collection of statement coats, leather boots and warm knits, which are all perfect for brisk fall weather.

Among the multitude of designers at NYFW was a familiar face, Kanye West. West first debuted as a designer during Paris Fashion Week in 2011, and received a lot of criticism for his inexperienced designs. This season, West took back to the fashion scene to redeem himself with a collaboration with Adidas. West’s show was filled with an entourage of fame, much to be expected, with Beyonce, Jay-Z, P-Diddy, Rihanna and of course Kim Kardashian and North West front row.

The collection of sportswear featured mute colors and an urban feel, and even included the most sought after shoe of the moment, named after West himself, the Yeezy 750 Boost sneakers. West received mixed reviews, many of them positive, but received some flack for the similarity of his design’s to past collections of famed designers.

Whether or not West’s collection can be dubbed ‘fashionable’ is beside the point when compared to all the heads that were turned in West’s direction.

NYFW will run through Feb. 19.
