New Year, New Class

Adventure Ed leads to more opportunities for experiences in physical education.

AdedA new Physical Education class travels most every day to Camp Peacock off of Deep Lake Road. This class, Adventure Education, offers many outdoor skills and activities for students to master.

The class is based on supplying the needs of students who prefer the outdoors over a gymnasium. At the beginning of the school year, Adventure Education started out with canoeing.  Now it has moved on to bicycling, and later in the year will be focusing on building fires and cooking with them.

A normal day in Adventure Ed. starts out with students getting on a bus to head over to Camp Peacock, which is located south of Lakes Community High School. Then the class moves on to canoeing and kayaking. This class is a great addition to the list of classes one person can take during their four years at ACHS.

“Its a lot more fun than regular school and its kind of a break in the middle of the day,” said senior Joe Hardin.

ACHS Physical Education teacher Gregg Henning said, “There is a lot of kids that do enjoy this outdoor stuff, but they never get a chance to do it while they are at school.”

This year, ACHS has started off with a new class, one that is different from any of the others, improving the school even more for its 100th year.
