New Varsity Cheer Coach Brings Alumna Spirit to Team

As the school year progresses, students are just starting to get used to the new faculty and staff members. Most students are not aware of the new coaches at Antioch Community High School unless they are a member of that particular team. Liz Webster was selected to take over Robin Gwinn’s position as head coach for the varsity cheerleading team this season. Webster knows that she has big shoes to fill this year in order to keep the cheer team’s promising performances alive.

“It’s a great undertaking when taking over such a successful program such as ours here at Antioch. Robin did a tremendous job with the program and I know that her legacy will live on forever. I’m definitely up to the task,” said Webster.

Webster is an ACHS Alumna who was involved in the cheer program with Robin as her coach. After graduating she became the freshman cheer coach from 2007 until 2009. After coaching at ACHS, Webster became head coach at Badgers High School in Lake Geneva, Wis. for three seasons.

The biggest task for Webster this year is to get the team to the state competition that takes place in early February. To prepare for state, Webster will be pushing the team hard to achieve greatness. In order to make it to state the team has to condition as much as possible and run through the routine at least three or four times each practice.

As a senior cheerleader it is hard to adjust to a new coach for their last year on the team, especially when their coach for three years is a difficult person to replace because of her huge impact on the cheerleading program.

“Liz is so dedicated to us, and despite the fact that she has big shoes to fill, she has helped us all so much. She has gotten us an amazing choreographer, and our routine for competition is ridiculously cool. She’s an awesome coach because she establishes a relationship with all of us and can relate to us like friends, and we all respect her as a coach,” said Guntharp.
