The Learning Center Shows Students Some TLC
February 21, 2014
Beginning this semester, science, math, English, and social studies classes will be offering a learning center in Lab 257 for students to go to when they need assistance in their core classes. The Learning Center (TLC) is a convenient place where students can receive help without having to travel to different classrooms.
Assistant Principal Aryan Haren said, “TLC offers help to students that are looking for assistance from teachers with their homework, projects, papers, etc. Every period of the day (1-8) there is a math and science teacher in TLC. An English teacher is in there class periods 2-7 and a social studies teacher is in TLC 1st period.”
Haren also said that The Learning Center is not currently open before or after school, so it is heavily encouraged that students who participate in extra curricular activities to take full advantage of the help being offered at TLC.
Sophomore Yasmin Lara said, “I have gone to the old Science Learning Center a couple of times, and I find the new Learning Center to be much more practical.”
Lara, among many other students, have found it extremely convenient to not have to go to different rooms for help in multiple classes.
ACHS math teacher Tina Bairstow said, “This is our first attempt at having everything in the same room. As a teacher, I really like that because it’s a lot easier to say ‘Go to 257’ versus having [students] in different rooms. Plus, I think it’s good for the students as well.”
Bairstow also mentioned that there was a student in TLC who, after finishing with math help, was able to turn around and immediately receive help from a science teacher.
The Learning Center is a great opportunity for students to receive help quickly and easily. All students are welcome to utilize The Learning Center no matter what level of core class they are in, be it Advanced Placement, honors or regular. The Learning Center has already proven to be helpful for both teachers and students.
