This year’s Mr. ACHS started and ended with great performances from all participants.
The contest kicked off with the the contestants showing off what they had in the formal wear category, which was a real thriller. The judges showed a real interest in Sam Smithson, who left the crowd in awe with his stunning entrance from the start.
The talent portion of the contest started with much laughter after Tim Regan took the stage in footie pajamas with his lovely partner, a banana, to start the night with a dance off. For this being Smithson’s first time performing in front of an audience, he showed how musically talented he was with a great rendition of “Day that I Die” by the Zac Brown Band.
James Novack released the crowds sensitive side with his rendition of a song that he said is,”emotional for him.” He sang “Hallelujah” and accompanied himself on the piano. Another one of Novack’s highlights occurred when he expressed to the crowd that he felt that the school needed to “get a Starbucks up in here.”
Some of you may have noticed the slight change from Mr. ACHS Contests prior to this one. Mr. ACHS has been moved from homecoming week to the spring. This is a change that Laura Tielke, ACHS Student Council adviser, said was done to “pick up the students’ school spirit in this ‘blah’ kind of weather.”
Participants who made it into the top 5 were Sam Smithson, James Novack, Ozan Emsun, Christian Norris and Nick Muskat.
Tielke said that Mr. ACHS is a contest for senior boys to “strut their stuff” to see who has the most school spirit.
The night ended with Tanner Skym being named as Mr. Congeniality, Nick Muskat as runner up and finally Sam Smithson coming out on top as this year’s 2014 Mr. ACHS and Mr. Talent. Smithson ended up taking home two titles that night.
