The Sequoits boys golf team hosted an invitational on September 11; the boys played well and placed second.
On Saturday, the boys golf team placed exceptionally well. In the past, the boys haven’t placed as well as they did this weekend. Junior Donald Barnett has played in this tournament for three years and was happy with the turnout.
“It’s my third year here and we’ve come in almost last [place] every other year,” Barnett said. “This is a very drastic improvement from where we were.”
They all came ready to play and scored in the low 80s and the high 70s, all exceptional scores. Senior Will Torres shot his personal best this year, which is a 79.
“I played really good today,” Torres said. “I had a lot of good shots and I’m proud of how the team as a whole played.”
Torres helped the team by securing the second palace spot by playing one of the best games of his golf career. Sophomore Tyler Stackhouse also shot one of his best rounds this weekend which was an 81.
“I played solid golf, I had a few problems and my short game was a struggle,” Stackhouse said. “I think I’ve played my best game of the season so far.”
The boys all had many pars and birdies throughout the day. Junior Ethan Frasch chipped the ball into the hole on number ten and parred the hole. The golf team all competed against some tough and mediocre competition but pushed through and played their best game.
Barnett played a good round and shot a 77, and he individually placed second out of all of the golfers attending the entire tournament. The ball striking on Saturday was very good, and it showed in all individual scores and overall team scores. The team is improving from the previous season and the beginning of this year’s season. The boys don’t have many matches left, but from the way they played on Saturday, it’s looking like they will finish their season strong.
