Model UN Bake Sale is Back
Club covers conference expenses by selling baked goods, soda.
This year, ACHS Model United Nations club has attended several overnight conferences, including one at the University of Chicago and another at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. While these conferences are considered successful by the club’s members, they also come with expenses.
“We have to raise a lot of money to pay for our hotel rooms, mostly,” said Model UN adviser Amy Skonberg. “Our student fees for the conference pays usually just for conference registration fees and one night in the hotel, so we have to raise money for 2 to 3 additional nights.”
This time, Model UN is running a soda and bake sale to raise funds. They have done these in the past, and each time they said the efforts are successful. Model UN plans to hold more fundraisers in the future, given this most recent bake sale ended April 1.
“The fundraisers are enjoyable because people can help support an unknown club in our school and it gets our name out a little more,” said junior Tessa Furlong. “It’s a way to bring Model UN to the front of the school for others to see.”
