After six nominations, actor finally pleases himself, internet and wins Best Actor award.

His first nomination was 23 years ago. Five nominations later, he was nominated yet again for the Best Actor Oscar for the film “The Revenant.” He is Leonardo DiCaprio, and Sunday he took home his first Oscar for his “Best Actor” performance.

At the 88th Academy Awards, DiCaprio sat patiently and visually anxious until the category he is nominated for arrived, which was nearly three hours from the top of the show. With many rooting for this 41-year-old actor and Twitter buzzing with nearly 440,000 Tweets per second after his win, it wouldn’t have been uncommon for an award show surprise. In this case everything was in his and his fans’ favor.

DiCaprio ended the award show with a two-minute speech not necessarily emphasizing his thanks, but instead focused on the impact of climate change and it’s impact not just on his film he won his award for, but also the rest of the world. His speech led to a standing ovation from his peers and adoration from fans worldwide.
