The 2015-16 season was exciting for Varsity boys basketball team, as they went on to win the IHSA Regional for the first time in 20 years. A strong senior base performed with talented younger players in order to make a run for the ages. In the coming season, the younger players of the past have grown into their spots and welcome a guard-heavy crop of talent.

“I think that every year a team has to find new ways to fill roles of the players that graduated, and I think we will be able to find those ways as the season progresses,” junior basketball player Nicholas Galante said.

Although last year’s seniors led through example and positivity, the Sequoits return guards Logan Weber and Michael Kawell, as well as center Reece Eldridge. Galante feels as though every group of players are unique, and although there will be big shoes to fill from the past, this year’s team will find new ways to get the job done.

“In the past years, the team has had a lot more size than we do now, but this year we are replacing it with speed,” Galante said.

The Sequoits are looking to use their speed and young players in the coming season to ultimately make noise when it comes down to tournament time.
