Lady Sequoits Fall to the Patriots

Lady Sequoits fall to Stevenson Patriots in NSC conference championship game.

The varsity girls basketball team ended their regular season with a close loss to Stevenson High School on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016. Despite the hard work and dedication shown by the Sequoits, the girls were not able to pull together their defense and ended with a final score of 49-46, falling to the Patriots.

The Sequoits started the game strong with an aggressive offensive display the first half, with a winning halftime score of 28-27. As the second half progressed, the Sequoit fouls added up and the momentum began to fall. By the end of the third quarter, the score was 48-43 Patriots. The fourth quarter the Sequoits struggled to play catch-up but certainly held their own with every minute jam packed with action, but in the end, the girls came up just one three-pointer short.

“I thought it was a good game but we broke down a few times defensively that hurt us in the end,” said senior Alexis Duehr. “Every year that I’ve played we’ve done well, but the past two years have been significant compared to the first two and I can’t wait to see how playoffs go.”

With playoffs right around the corner, the Sequoits still have a lot to look forward too.

“We played really well as a whole. People stepped up when they needed to and that is great practice for upcoming games that will matter more,” said junior Ashley Reiser. “ The season is going great! We’ve had a few minor setbacks, but only to have a major comeback.”

With that mindset, the Sequoits are going to be able to use this loss as motivation to make a serious run for upcoming games.
