Lady Sequoits put up a shot against the Elmwood Tigers.

The girls varsity basketball team took home an easy win over Elmwood Park High School in their regional semi-final game on Wednesday, Feb. 17, with a final score of 93-25 and a sealed spot in the regional championship game.

With a first half score of 59-7 for the Sequoits, it was clear that the teamwork and communication that had been in the works all season was paying off. The ladies worked to move as a team, whether it was their excellent passing on the court or their bench rituals after made free throws.

“We really made sure to communicate and know what was happening on the court,” said sophomore Olivia Ori. “We played as a team and not individuals, and that was what really brought it together tonight.”

The girls will advance to play Marian Central in the regional championship game on Friday, Feb. 19.

“The next game will be tougher than the first round of regionals, but we just need to push the ball and run the court,” said senior Maddy Murillo. “As long as we play as a team, make our shots, and focus on the fundamentals, I think we will be just fine.”
