To many people, track and field is just about sprinting and breaking records. What many people don’t realize is how much time and effort it takes to perfect the technique and skill to compete and try to break those records.

Jackson Gutke is filling new shoes as a freshman on the JV track team. Last year, Gutke discovered his love for the sport as he participated on the AUGS track team. Gutke has natural athleticism and strength, but always looks to improve himself. Track motivates Gutke to be in the best shape possible for not only track, but to benefit in the other sports that he participates in.

“I stay motivated by running because it keeps me in shape,” Gutke said. “Also, it is another activity I can do in my free time. It improves on my skills for other sports like football and basketball.”

While Gutke is unsure of the events he will participating in this season, he has previously participated in the 200, 2×400, 4×400 and shotput. Gutke is an athlete always looking for new activities to be a part of. By his senior year of high school, Gutke’s goal is to become an Iron Athlete because of his efforts as a three sport athlete in football, basketball and track.
