Antioch’s JV cheerleading team competed against 23 other JV teams during the Grayslake North Invitational, Saturday, January 14. Before their performance, nerves were high as they prepared with warm ups.
“I want to get at least 6th place today,” sophomore Destiny Enriquez said. “No matter what we get though, I’ll be proud of us. We’re a very hardworking group.”
The team started their performance strong with a liberty stunt, which turned into a arabesque, while freshman Sammi Milliken ran in the middle of the two stunting groups and completed a roundoff tuck. The team then followed up with a double toe touch. Later in the performance, the girls held up signs spelling “Sequoits,” shouting out each letter as the signs go up.
After their performance, the team cheered on the Varsity Sequoits and the Lakes Eagles as they went on to perform.
“I think we did really well,” freshman Madisen Krapf said. “There were some stunts that I think we could’ve pulled off better, but we worked really hard and hopefully the outcome is good.”
As the awards commenced, JV did not hear their name called out as the announcer listed off the top three teams in the medium JV division. Out of ten high school teams, JV placed 6th.
“We could have done better,” sophomore Anna Baker said. “We had a few mistakes here and there, but I know we made an effort and it was just those little things that we can fix.”
The team will be participating in another competition at Amos Alonzo Stagg High School this Sunday, January 22.
