The JV Antioch field hockey team challenged Loyola Academy this past Wednesday in the stadium. The girls were coming off of a shutout win from Tuesday’s game against Homewood Flossmoor, with a score of 4-0.

The first half brought along many defensive challenges to the Sequoits. Only four minutes in, Loyola’s Maddy Smith drives a goal into the bottom corner of the cage. The first half brought along three additional goals from Loyola Academy.

“I feel great, I feel empowered now to do better than the first half,” said sophomore Hayden Sorrentino.

The second half began and the girls held their ground until Loyola scored their fifth goal with a drive. The last five minutes of the half concluded with two more goals from Loyola Academy, finishing the game in a shutout with a score of 7-0 in favor of Loyola.

“I think that I personally need to improve on staying motivated and having stronger passes, but as a team we need to remember to always stay motivated even while losing,” said sophomore Jamie Nottingham. “Overall we have been working well together and being very supportive to each other.”

“When we work together as a team, we are better than any team we play against,” said sophomore Megan Williams.

The Sequoits will have another attempt at starting a new winning streak in their upcoming game against Lakes Community High School on September 11 at 4:30 p.m. on home turf.
