J Cole is a well known rapper that seems to be on the uprise with his new album “2014 Forrest Hill Drive,” which dropped Dec. 9. Cole takes his listeners back and lets them in on a little of his personal life. As listeners can see on the album cover, he is resting on top of the roof of his old house and is certainly making this album a part of his roots. After his third successful album in a row, Cole instantly jumped to first on the Billboard Top 200.
“I don’t listen to the type of music J Cole makes, but you can tell he put a lot into this album and made it personal, that’s what I think makes it special,” junior Collin Lytle said.
“2014 Forrest Hill Drive” had a big time debut. The album dropped and hit stores heavy. With 354,000 copies sold in it’s first week, all the buzz was on J Cole, and it didn’t stop there. His most popular songs and most downloaded from the album are “Wet Dreamz” and “No Role Modelz.”
“I give this album an 8.7 [out of ten] due to the fact that he isn’t rapping about the mainstream stuff. He keeps it real and sticks to his roots,” senior Destiny Dickson said.
Junior Nick Andre agreed with Dickson.
“I think it doesn’t stop here. I think this is just the beginning of J Cole’s career and he will continue to get bigger and make better songs with great beats. He’s definitely in my top 5 favorite rappers right now,” Andre said.
At this rate, J Cole will continue to gain more fans and make more successful albums. All fans can do is wait for the next one.
