We are now in the midst of the holiday season. Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. During this time, many people are extremely busy, juggling school, work, extracurriculars and more. For many, time slips away faster each day as they prepare for the festivities ahead. The months are smashed together, morphing into one big, extensive month. With all of this said, this story aims to focus on the appreciation of one specific holiday that is approaching quickly: Thanksgiving. Is Thanksgiving getting jumbled together with the other holidays? Is Thanksgiving an underappreciated holiday?
Senior Enza Nawrocki describes her time leading up to Thanksgiving as hectic, explaining that sometimes she does not really think about the holiday until it comes.
“I don’t know if I have forgotten about it [Thanksgiving], but I definitely haven’t been the most excited about it [Thanksgiving],” Nawrocki said.
Nawrocki says that she loves Thanksgiving, but it is not as celebrated as other holidays.
Furthermore, senior Annalise Lowrance claims that she feels that people are more focused about other holidays rather than Thanksgiving.
“I think a lot of people see it as just food and then people do not even give any thanks,” Lowrance said “I think most people are more excited for Christmas, like me, so I feel like they just don’t really care about Thanksgiving and rather just skip to Christmas”
“I think people just skip straight to Christmas, and Thanksgiving just gets ‘forgotten’ along the way.” senior Quinn Pluciennick agrees.
Thanksgiving could be considered somewhat underrated and underappreciated, but that does not mean that it is not as important as Halloween and Christmas. It is still a great holiday to catch up with friends and family and give thanks. Nawrocki, Pluciennick and Lowrance all agree, claiming that Thanksgiving is an amazing holiday in which to show gratitude and thanks to those they love. Nevertheless, it is not as big of a holiday as Christmas, therefore everyone should give Thanksgiving the appreciation that it deserves this year.
