The ACHS Intro to Food classes participated in the Bake for Goods Small Group/FCS Baking program, which was designed for students to learn and bake together. The goal is for the students to share half of their baked goods as a donation to their local food shelter. This act of service was inspired by Mrs.Cleary, as she looked to get her students involved in this charitable act through her love of baking. Freshman Andreas Kaliakmanis has enjoyed his time in the Intro to Foods class and has learned a lot about bread temperatures and the skills it takes to bake.
“We made 53 loaves for each class and it felt really good to give back,” Kaliakmanis said.
The six intro classes were accepted into the program and were given the opportunity to give bread to the Open Arms Mission located on 1548 Main St, Antioch, ILL. King Arthur Baking provided the flour, recipe booklets, a dough scraper and bread bags in order to make giving back easy. This is the start of a new tradition at ACHS as our culinary classes look to contribute to this charity in the upcoming years.
