Aside from academics and athletics, Antioch Community High School offers many interesting and diverse clubs and groups for students to participate in, for example International Club. International Club is led by World Language teachers Dani Katz and Taryn Martinez. The club has over 85 members this year, making it one of the largest at ACHS.The International Club was created three years ago. District 117 needed to make budget cuts, so the Spanish Club and German Club were eliminated. The two clubs joined together to make the International Club. This year, sophomore Morgan Yankee is the president of the International Club, with junior Delaney Burke as the vice president. Sophomore Kim McNatt is the photographer, sophomore Alicia Vazquez is the secretary, junior Carly Stumphy is the treasurer, and sophomore Ellie Yankee is the web master. These six members each have certain duties to ensure that the International Club’s meetings and events run as smoothly as possible.

ACHS junior Shane Sinomini said, “Students should join International Club to become more diverse and have fun learning even more about different cultures.”

The club started the year off with their annual opening picnic at Centennial Park on Friday, September 13. Throughout the year, members are given the opportunity of going on exciting and educational field trips and events.

“We do a lot of fun activities. We have monthly events that celebrate different cultures,” said Katz. “We mainly focus on German and Spanish because we offer them at ACHS.”

Sinomini said, “I’m most excited for all of the amazing class trips and events International Club takes.”

In November, members of the club take a field trip to the Milwaukee Folk Fair. This year, the festival is from Fri., Nov. 22 to Sun., Nov. 24 at the Wisconsin Exposition Center at State Fair Park. The Milwaukee Folk Fair is a multi-cultural festival located in Wisconsin. Viewers enjoy music and dance performances, an international market, and unique food.

In addition to going on field trips, the International Club recognizes cultural holidays. At the end of February, members celebrate Mardi Gras and Carnival.

Joining the International Club is one of many great ways for students to become involved at ACHS.
