Interact club will be bringing both schools from Community High School District 117 together to raise money for the Open Arms Mission.
On Tuesday, a penny war will begin between Antioch and Lakes Community High Schools. Penny collection boxes will available during lunch hours and in the attendance office. The war will go on throughout the week, leading up to a chili cook-off.
On Friday, starting at 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., the chili cook-off will be held in the foyer outside of the gym at ACHS. The ACHS/LCHS basketball game will immediately follow.
This year will be different from the past due to the challenge being teachers versus students. In years past, the cook-off was students versus students. For $5 a person, you will be able to go around and sample all of the chili cooked by the teachers and students. Along with sampling the 20 different types of chili, salad and bread will be given to each person. ACHS special education teacher and interact club adviser, Kerri Elliot said she traditionally enjoys most of the chili.
After eating all of the chili, tasters will be allowed to cast their vote on which chili is best. Along with sampling the chili, the band the 30, 60, 90’s will preform and a silent auction will be held. The winner of the chili cook-off will receive a prom ticket. Proceeds from the chili cook off with directly help with the Tanzania trip and the Kilimahewa Educational Center.
