How To: Homemade Sugar Cookies (Great Grandma’s Recipe)

Easy to make, quick to bake.

Many use icing to decorate their sugar cookies, but sprinkles can add a different color and texture to the cookie.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ¾ cups Flour
  • 1 teaspoonBaking Soda
  • ½ teaspoonBaking Powder
  • 1 cup Butter
  • 1 ½ cups Sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • Food coloring (color of your choice)

Directions: 

  1. Preheat oven 350 degrees
  2. Add sugar and butter in a bowl to make a cream
  3. Add the egg and vanilla to mixture, mix until well combined
  4. Slowly mix baking powder, baking soda, and flour together.
  5. Place dough on wax paper, rolling it into a log about 2-2 ½ in in diameter
  6. Cut log in half and refrigerate up to 30 mins in refrigerator
  7. Color sugar with food coloring of your choice and spread it onto a piece of wax paper
  8. Roll the log into the sugar, making sure to coat the entire outside
  9. Cut ¼ in slices and place on non-greased cookie sheet
  10. Bake for 8-10 mins, or until edges are lightly browned
