How To: Make Cake in a Mug

Cake in a Mug is the perfect size for one person to enjoy, and the short amount of time it takes to prepare makes it even more appealing. The ingredients needed to make this cake are butter, milk, vanilla extract or cocoa powder, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Materials that will also be needed are measuring cups, a mug, a microwave safe mixing bowl and measuring spoons.
To start, place two tablespoons of butter into the mixing bowl and microwave until fully melted. After that step is completed, mix in a fourth cup and two tablespoons of milk. For a vanilla cake, add anywhere between a half or a full tablespoon of vanilla extract; this amount can differ depending on how strong the desired taste is. For a chocolate cake, cocoa powder will be added later to the dry ingredients later on. Once the wet ingredient mixture is completed, set this mixture to the side and begin to mix the dry ingredients.
In the mug, mix a fourth cup and two tablespoons of flour, two tablespoons of sugar, a fourth a teaspoon of baking powder and an eighth a teaspoon of salt. For chocolate cake, add anywhere between half a tablespoon to a tablespoon and a half of cocoa powder, depending on the desired taste. Once mixed, create a well in the center of the mixture. Pour the liquid mixture from earlier into the well one half at a time, whisking in between. Once all of the ingredients are evenly mixed and there are no lumps in the batter, place the mug in the microwave for two minutes and 10 seconds. When the time is up, let the mug cool for about three minutes and then the cake will be ready to enjoy. Toppings can be added depending on taste, such as ice cream, frosting, sprinkles or even whipped cream.
