Hockey – Pregame Fuel
Lakers Hockey team shares their pregame diets and rituals.
Every athlete has their pregame ritual that includes what they eat, wear, do, and more. However, not every athlete eats he same thing since everyone is different, and every athlete needs different fuel foods depending on their sport, physical fitness and personal preference. Antioch junior Lakers Hockey player Ethan Byczek prepares by eating pasta or fish, since they both have high amounts of carbohydrates and proteins.
“It fuels my body so I do not get fatigued during the game as quickly, and it keeps me going faster and harder longer compared to if I ate junk food,” Byczek said.
Antioch senior Warren Sundt takes a similar approach as he typically eats steak or pork since there are more calories in those meats.
“I eat a meal that consists of about 2000 calories, because I burn over that many during a game,” Sundt said.
Grayslake North senior Patrick Farca follows a plan similar to that of Byczek and Sundt, but Farca makes sure to eat two hours prior to the game.
“I typically eat about two hours before and it’s usually pasta, steak or chicken to give me a good source of protein and energy,” Farca said.
The key to high energy is lots of carbohydrates and proteins beforehand, this technique helps the Lakers Hockey team preform their best during games.
