Girls Soccer Suffers From Weather
As spring girls soccer season jumps to a start, snow storms and cold weather puts a freeze on their first couple games.
Recently the weather has been more than unpredictable. Dry in December, 60 degrees in January and snowing in March. Spring sports are constantly having to change their schedule and locations due to the unusual weather. Antioch’s girl’s soccer team has had to reschedule and postpone three games so far this season because of the unpredictable weather conditions.
“We’ll play in pretty harsh conditions,” sophomore and Varsity player Gabriella Michaels said. ¨Sometimes you can’t feel your legs while running and that really sucks; we aren’t really allowed to wear leggings, but we can wear Under Armour underneath our jerseys, as long as they are the same color; and we get to wear gloves too, so our hands don’t freeze, so that’s nice.”
Despite not having a game yet this season due to the weather, the girls hope to improve upon their 10-7-5 record from last year and hope to make it to the regional championship game. As results of the uncertainty of the weather, the next game will be at home on March 20, against Zion-Benton High School, at 5 p.m.
