Junior George Bessette qualified for the State tournament and competed this past weekend in Champaign. 

He has been wrestling for many years prior to and during high school. His father wrestled for many years when he was younger as well, continuing to pursue the sport in college at the D1 level.

“Coach Borrero really worked hard with us to help us prepare. I tried to focus on doing the best I can,” said Bessette.

In order to qualify for state, the wrestlers had to place in regionals and sectionals.

“We participated in tough tournaments this season; they helped not only myself but the entire team to be successful,” said Bessette.

In the first match at state, Bessette pinned his opponent within 45 seconds and advanced to the semi-finals. Bessette took home fourth and ended his individual wrestling season on a great foot.
