Fresh Start

Boys basketball started November 7 and have already shown their commitment by pushing themselves for the better.

Friday, November 11 the team had their first morning practice of the season. Some may think waking up for school is hard, try waking up even earlier for basketball practice. The boys are training hard this year to bring their fellow Sequoits some more hardware, especially since they lost 10 seniors the year prior. This means new teammates, new plays, and higher intensity.

“I like the morning practices but I try not to do too many because too much of a good thing may turn out to be a bad thing,”head varsity coach James White, said. “I like our group, I think everyone likes each other, they play hard and play for each other.”

Last year, the boys basketball team won the IHSA Regional Championship. Since then, 10 players have graduated and there will be so many new faces; the junior and sophomore boys have big shoes to fill.

“I think our team can do as well as last year or possibly better. We have a lot of promising juniors who will need to step up because we only have a few seniors on the team this year,” senior Reece Eldridge said.

Some players are setting their goals to improve not only themselves but as well as the team as a whole.

“My goals for this year’s team is to follow in the footsteps of last year’s team and hopefully get farther,” junior Jaden DeVaughn said.

Make sure to come out and support our Sequoits this winter. Their first game is home against Mundelein, Thursday, December 1 at 7pm.
