On Sept. 10, the Antioch Community High School girls varsity flag football team faced the Grayslake North Knights. The Sequoits had a shutout game with the final score being 40-0, bouncing back from their latest loss to Lakes Community High School.

The Sequoits’ defense continued to play strong, allowing minimal gain for the Knight’s offense. With the Sequoits back on offense, they used two quick plays before scoring again, extending their lead to 20-0 with 12 and a half minutes remaining in the first half.
With the Sequoits stifling defense, they were able to intercept another Knight pass, putting the Knights back on defense. The Sequoit offense quickly took advantage of the turnover into another scoring opportunity with a quick handoff up the middle to make the score 26-0. With the Knights having to punt, the Sequoits returned the punt for a touchdown, growing their lead to 33-0. With the Sequoits having an excellent defensive game, they pressured the Knights to punt again. With the Sequoits back on offense, they found the endzone one last time before the half ended to make the score 40-0. At half-time, the entire team had something up their sleeve. To show their appreciation towards their team manager, sophomore Gus Vega, by asking him to homecoming using signs, getting him flowers and a gift.
As the second half began, the Knights put together some long drives but were not able to score against the Sequoit defense. The Sequoits earned a victory with a final score of 40-0. The enthusiasm radiating from the team shows how valuable it has been to add girls flag football to ACHS athletics. Junior Abby Fuesting explains how flag football was a great addition to ACHS.
“It gives girls a chance to play football without being scared,” Fuesting said. “It’s fun and anyone can play.”
Come and see this new and exciting sport at their next home game on Sept. 17 against Wauconda High School.
