On Sept. 22, the Antioch Community High School varsity football team took on the Grayslake North Knights on Friday and took home a big win. The Sequoits battled against the Grayslake North Knights with a final score of 50-13 in favor of the Sequoits.
The team was led with their first touchdown by senior Nick Day in the first quarter, having the score come to 6-0. Day is a huge help for the Sequoits and is constantly gaining points for the team, leading them to victory.
Not long after, the Sequoits got their second touchdown by another senior, Aiden Van Alstine. Van Alstine got the score up to 12 points for the Sequoits and 0 for the Knights. Senior Carter Webb then made a successful kick into the field goal, adding another point to the scoreboard. That was one of Webb’s many successful kicks of the night, helping the team to a victory. By the end of the first quarter, the Sequoits led the Knights 22-0.
The Sequoits have an undefeated record of 5-0 this season and have high hopes to continue their winning streak this Friday night. The team is 3-0 in the conference and is taking significant leaps to the conference champion title and keeping their title against at Wauconda High School.
During the second quarter, the Knights managed to get a touchdown. Despite the Knights’ scoring, that did not stop the Sequoits; they continued to push and fight against their opponents and score touchdowns. That got the halftime score to be 43-6, with the Sequoits in the lead.
Unsurprisingly, the Sequoits would continue their amazing performance on the field. Touchdowns led the team by junior Martin Cohen and senior Tyler Ingman; the Sequoits were unstoppable, with their players scoring points, ending the game with a final score of 50- 13. Senior quarterback James Sheehan’s 93-yard pass to Cohen broke the school record for the longest touchdown pass; the record was previously held by Dick Wolf to Chip Eberman vs. Vernon Hills High School in 1959.
The boys earned the victory with hard work and strong collaboration.
