Field Hockey’s Second Round of Regional Playoffs

Antioch Community High School’s varsity field hockey team competed in the second round of regional playoffs on Tues., Oct. 29. The game was played at New Trier Township High School against the New Trier Trevians. The opposing team was seated second in state for public high schools, while ACHS was seated seventh. The Sequoits ended their winning season with a 1 to 7 loss to New Trier. Sophomore Alexis Duehr scored the goal within the first half of the game. With this win, New Trier will advance to compete in the state playoffs.

ACHS special education teacher and varsity field hockey coach Terry Dewing said, “As our season progressed, we improved with every game.  This was evident when we watched film from the beginning of the season to watching film at the end of the season.  We were a very fast team that was able to complete possession passes and quickly move the ball to our attacking end.”

This season, ACHS’ varsity field hockey team had a record of 16 wins, seven losses and one tie, with a total of 47 goals scored. Additionally, the team was successful in the Gateway Classic Tournament in St. Louis, Missouri.

“This season was a successful season,” said Dewing. “We started at the end of August by winning the Gateway Classic in our pool and brought home the Championship Trophy. It was a fun season to watch the development of the team. ”
