Fellow Sequoit Tours County Through World Class Drum Corps

Savannah Plank travels the country with national marching band and color guard.

While a majority of high school students enjoyed late morning wake-up calls, evening concerts with friends and endless relaxation at the beach this summer, Sophomore Savannah Plank experienced a whole other story as she traveled with the nationally ranked Colts Drum & Bugle Corps, competing in their highly competitive color guard.`

After an intensive audition against some 600 youth from the ages of 13-21, Plank was among the 150 accepted into the competition team for the 2016 summer championship season. As a member of the performance group, Park was expected to not only attend all-day rehearsals, but also commit to 80+ traveling days as the group moved all around the United States.

“We ask the same question every day…where are we?” Plank said, in response to the 22 different states visited.

In total, the team presented for an audience of up to 200,000 during their 30 performances this summer, and placed 16th overall at the world championship finals. Although being a part of the Colts was a huge commitment throughout the summer, Plank made an accomplishing leap in her passion for color guard, and is now able to bring her newly learned experiences back to Antioch as the school year begins.
