Exploring What the New iPhone 8 May Have in Store
Rumors about a celebration for the anniversary of the first iPhone have been circling for months.
Popular technology company Apple is expected to release a new iPhone this year, and possibly on the tenth anniversary of the release of the first iPhone.
Rumors around the new iPhone include: a radical redesign, an edge-to-edge display, wireless charging, and other special features. Other rumors speculate that Touch ID fingerprint sensor and the front facing camera will be built into the screen itself.
The display may use flexible plastic OLED, rather than the usual LCD; this change will consume less power and display higher contrast.
“Honestly, I haven’t heard any hype about the iPhone 8,” senior Haley Aldersebaes said. “I don’t like it- I just feel like they are trying too hard to compete with Samsung… the Galaxy already has [those features] and they need to think of something knew.”
Similar to the iPhone 7, the iPhone 8 will likely be water-resistant as well.
“There are two possible outcomes based on the rumors we’re hearing: Either we get three iPhones with glass bodies and wireless charging, with extra features to set the OLED model apart from the standard models, or we get a single OLED model with a glass body sold alongside two standard aluminum devices,” Macrumors.com said.
The newest iPhone is still in the development stage, but will likely hit the market next fall.
