Earth Day, Everyday

Many people can forget Earth Day and may not realize how important it is.

The destruction of the planet is not something mankind can turn a blind eye to.

Earth Day is often overlooked by many people in today’s society.  Often times, people do not seem to understand this holiday that celebrates something crucial to all of us: Earth. Many people frequently don’t think about where they throw their trash on a daily basis.

“Earth day isn’t something that we usually think about as teenagers,” sophomore Mia Maldonado said. “Being on social media though, we should really know how bad the Earth is getting.”

In this day and age, the average teenager spends hours on multiple social media platforms daily. However, different media influences that post not only on Earth Day, but throughout the year about the best ways to save the planet.

For many people, it is easier to neglect the fact that there is currently an environmental crisis rather than face it. People tend to focus on the present and what is currently affecting their lives and fail to notice the bigger picture.

“I don’t really think about Earth Day as much as I should,” sophomore Ilijana Kalman said. “The environment is important and what we do to the environment can impact everyone.”

Generally speaking, teens do not always think of their futures. The carbon foot left by previous generations cannot be erased nor the one left for generations of the future.

Humanity has been given the information and tools to keep the planet clean. Earth is the responsibility of all people, and it’s one that should be taken more seriously.
