Hidden within a two story abandoned factory building in Zion, Ill., right behind the Zion Metra train station, is a Halloween fright fest you simply cannot miss. Welcome to the Dungeon of Doom.
Antioch Community High School senior and one of over 80 Dungeon of Doom employees, Jonathan Unick said, “The Dungeon of Doom is known for being very intense and in your face, unlike other haunts around the area.”
Last Halloween season, Dungeon of Doom was ranked in the top 31 haunted houses in America. This year, three completely new scenes have been added. Inside the haunted house, there are many different special effects and scenes, like moving floors, spinning tunnels, mazes, an elevator crash scene and much more. Additionally, the haunted house now has a feature that no other place offers called Dare to Scare.
“[Dare to Scare] allows you to pay $10 extra to go behind the scenes of the haunted house and be able to scare the guests for 15 minutes,” said Unick. “You are given a booth that gives you access to different props like air cannons, train horns and much more at your disposal to activate and scare the guests like a worker would, with the comfort of being behind a wall only you can see through.”
It takes around 60 minutes to complete both the first and second floors, while other haunted houses in the area last only half as long.
This Halloween season, the Dungeon of Doom opens at 7:30 p.m each night from Oct. 4 through Nov. 2. On weekends, lines to get in the haunted house can be up to three hours long, so it is best to arrive early. If you want to skip the long line, VIP tickets are also available. General admission tickets are on sale for $25.00 and visitors can purchase them online in advance at www.dungeonofdoom.com.
