On Wednesday, August 30, the Antioch girls varsity tennis team faced off against the Zion-Benton Zee-Bees at their D117 home courts hoping to get a win. In a “clean sweep” the girls won every singles and doubles match in dominating fashion. As a team, the Sequoits were a perfect 7-0. Many members of the team were proud and excited to perform at such a high level so early in their season.

Senior Kelsey Neville showed strong leadership to rally the team to victory. Personally, Neville won her match in straight sets (6-0, 6-0).

“I felt pretty good going into it because we have always beat Zion as a team,” Neville said. “I think we are pretty solid this year.”

With Neville’s imposing figure and physical prowess, Zion-Benton had no answer for all of her expertise. Neville is looking to further her tennis career at the next level on the collegiate stage.

“I’m looking at a lot of schools on the east coast, both D1 and D3,” Neville said. “I’m going for official visits in mid September to meet the players and practice with them.”

Despite all of the Sequoits’ success, the Zee-Bees performed a hard fought competitive contest. The Zee-Bees never gave up, they fought to the end and showed excellent sportsmanship regardless of being outmatched and outplayed by the Sequoits.

Come out to Waukegan High School at 4:30 tonight to cheer on the Sequoits in their next match.
