American Horror Story actress Jamie Brewer was the first ever down syndrome model to walk in New York Fashion Week. She walked in designer Carrie Hammar’s “Role Models not Runway Models” show. Brewer serves as an inspiration to many women watching showing anyone can overcome obstacles, and Hammar believed Brewer was definitely a women who can conquer the game when walking in NYFW.

Hammar told Today, “We feature influential women on the runway, and anyone who is on top of their game.”

With Hammar pushing away from the standard tall and slim models it demonstrates that having someone different and inspirational can truly have an impact on other young women.

“If she [models] can do it, so can I and encourages other young women to show who they are,” Brewer said to Today.
