Coloring: The New Form Of Meditation
Coloring has become the new technique for relaxing the mind.
Coloring is no longer only for children. In fact, coloring has become the new form of meditation. Adult coloring books first came out in 2013, along with a line of adult markers, colored pencils, and crayons.
Coloring has been proven to help with anxiety and stress. This new form of relaxation is being used in colleges and high schools all over the country.
Adult coloring books have a collection of designs for everyone’s liking. They are mostly full of lines, circles, and complicated designs. The designs stimulate the mind without causing stress.
Advanced Fit For Life teacher Jaime Walton gave her group of students a day of relaxation, which included coloring. The feedback that she received from her students was incredible, and they are really looking forward to coloring on Friday’s, instead of yoga.
“As an artist I would say it is relaxing when it is not for a grade or something school related. I like drawing and creating artwork for fun and being able to do what I love in school,” said junior Francisco Alfaro.
