The Sequoits made a scene at the Vernon Hills High School stadium this past Friday, Sept. 19, when the score made the players and fans antsy. Although there were some close calls, the Sequoits pushed through another round.

First quarter, senior Alan Taylor ran in the first touchdown of the night. With much force and intensity, the Vernon Hills Cougars scored not too long after, but missing the field goal, making the score 6-7. Senior middle linebacker Grant Hackeloer was untouchable and sacked the blinded quarterback. Coaches and teammates jumped in their teammates success.

Come second quarter, juniors Nick Andre and Matt Adams made some winning plays. Andre made the second touchdown of the night with Adams making some hard tackles to follow. Unstoppable Griffin Hill, junior, had another unbeatable kick-off return for the last score of the first half, running 75 yards with only 46.2 seconds left in the half. Sequoits lead the game with a score of 21-12.

Mid third quarter Taylor made another touchdown leaving the score to be 28-18 with eight minutes left. The Cardinal Crazies helped make the Cougar campus Sequoit territory. As the fans roared our way to victory, Hill made plenty of plays to leave Vernon Hills in the turf ending the game 42-40.

Sequoits walking off the field relieved with another big “W”, they now wait for their homecoming game against Grant High School next Friday, Sept. 26, at home! Come see the football players kick-off the night at 7:30 with their game masks on. Wear Mardi Gras attire to show your support!
