Students and parents look through information about enrollment at Antioch Community High School.

As the new year begins, it is time to welcome a new class to Antioch Community High School. In order to introduce the incoming freshmen to all the school has to offer, the annual eighth-grade night open house is hosted. Current students at the school set up tables in the north and south gym to recruit new students for their sports and clubs. The incoming freshmen can also begin to pick their classes for the upcoming year. Starting high school is a big step for these eighth graders, and it comes with lots of excitement.

“What I’m looking forward to most is being in a new environment with new people and friends,” incoming freshman Carissa Lozano said. ” It was exciting going to eighth-grade night to see what is in my future at ACHS.”

Going into high school is a new chapter in a student’s life and this also comes with lots of nerves. Fear of the unknown and finding your way in a bigger school is common in many incoming freshmen.

“I am excited to play sports and meet new friends, but meeting new teachers and keeping my grades up in harder classes makes me nervous,” incoming freshman Andrew Keller said. “It was still really cool getting to see some of my friends at eighth-grade night and deciding what I want to participate in this year.”

Overall eighth-grade night is a wonderful opportunity for incoming freshmen and although it might create some anxiety it gives the new students a taste of what life at ACHS has to offer.
