Last Sunday Jan. 26, the cheerleaders took a short trip to Grant Community High School for the annual conference competition. The squad was up against a lot of hard competition but took second in the Prairie Division.
As the girls stepped on the mat their emotions were racing as their only thoughts were hitting their routine.
“On the floor I was really nervous because there were so many co-ed teams against us. It was really stressful, but then as we were on the mats we saw all of our fans; the students and everyone cheering for us and it just felt really good,” said senior Courtney Carley.
All their hard work and dedication really paid off in the end because they took home a second place victory in their division.
“It feels absolutely amazing to get second. I have never been happier in my entire life. I was nervous at first, but once we got out there it felt really good,” said sophomore Andi Leineberg.
Although the team has had a rough season they were able to work together to get the place they deserved.
“We’ve had a rough season with all the ups and downs and we just really needed this to prepare us for sectionals next week. Hopefully we can get our bid to state! We are all very excited,” said Carley.
Wauconda High School took first in the Prairie division. Stevenson took first in the Lake Division and took the whole competition by receiving the highest score.
