Cheerleading at Conference
The cheerleading team was disappointed after placing 4th in the Prairie Division and placing 11th overall at conference this weekend.
Conference was held at ACHS this past weekend for all teams to compete before Sectionals.
After not getting the scores hoped for at previous competitions, the team was looking forward to reaching their goal at conference and hitting their performance.
Energy started out high for the Sequoits once they hit the mat, but dwindled down as two stunts fell and the team lost their focus.
“We got in over our heads; we didn’t leave our hearts on that floor and this coming weekend is all or nothing,” said senior Andi Leineberg.
With Sectionals coming up, stress is building and the pressure is higher than ever.
“We are in or out, so we’re really pushing to get our bid to State and we’re focusing on confidence and heart. We can only practice the skills so much if we aren’t confident and our hearts aren’t in it,” said Leineberg.
Amanda England, another senior on the team, is currently out of performing because of an injury. She gets to see the team from a different angle than the other girls and can see where most of the mistakes come from.
“Preparing for Sectionals, we are practicing every day running our routine over and over. We can’t let our nerves overcome us like they did at Conference; it’s all about staying mentally strong. We deserve to know what it’s like to hit our routine and go on to State,” said England.
It’s time for the cheer team to overcome their nerves and push themselves harder than ever.
It’s do or die for the girls at Sectionals this Saturday, January 30th.
