‘TAINMENT TUESDAYS: Bringing The Joy Back
To continue the kick off of daily blogs; Tuesdays’ will be about today’s entertainment.
“Joy” will make the impossible seem possible. The fact that the movie is based on a true story makes it a little bit more raw with the idea of the plot. The film is narrated by Mimi, Joy’s grandmother (Diane Ladd), the one person who supported Joy throughout her inventions. It’s a nice touch to the movie and gives a relieving factor.
Joy Mangano (Jennifer Lawrence) has been in the dark for 17 years ever since her parents divorced and broke her paper creations when they were fighting. When she gets switched to the night shift at work, she realizes a change needs to happen. With an investment from her father’s new girlfriend, she creates a self-wringing mop, and the idea sells.
Like most movies, there is a lot of ups and downs which keeps you hooked throughout the entire time. However, at times it could be confusing because of flashbacks that lasted a couple minutes too long to the point where it was forgotten it was a flashback. By the end of the movie it fast forwards later in life where much has changed, and Joy still has her ripped and taped up paper creations.
Overall, “Joy” is a movie that tells a story and never once shied away from the plot. David O. Russell (Director) never seems to disappoint with the way he brings the movie to life. This past Sunday, Jennifer Lawrence also won a Golden Globe for her performance, and it was very much deserved.
