The Antioch Viking Youth Cheerleading Varsity squad took first in the State Championship competition December 5 through 7 at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates. They left it all on the floor as they fought for the state title. This year, the girls brought home the gold.

Vikings Cheer is a program designed for anyone from kindergarten to 8th grade, with girls from Antioch, Lindenhurst, Lake Villa and Southeastern Wisconsin. They have been practicing since July in hopes to end their season as a Viking on a high note.

The Vikings had help from four teen coaches, three of which are Sequoit cheerleaders and Viking alumnas: senior Helena Neumann, junior Miranda Karellas and sophomore Rebecca Bargamian.

In 2009-2011, the Varsity team received first place at this competition and in their 2012 season, the Vikings fell into second place. In 2014, the Vikings came back and won first place at the State Competition. In 2015, five of their squads earned bids to the IRCA State Competition; two squads went on to the Illinois State Recreational Cheerleading State Competition where Featherweight (5th grade) took 3rd place in State.
