The third times a charm. Saturday night, Feb. 27 Stephen Curry broke the single season three pointer record as he ties the market for most three-pointers in a game. Stephen Curry has now broke the record for the third time, all in a row.
The record was set at 286 points when Curry sunk his game winner from 32 feet away, setting the record at 288 points. With 24 games left in the season, Curry will set a new record with every three he makes. However, breaking records was not the only highlight of Curry’s match.
The Golden Sate Warriors verses Oakland City Thunder game was dead even. Curry continued to amaze the crowd as he sunk several nail bitting 3-pointers throughout the game. Unfortunately Curry rolled his ankle and missed five minutes to get it re-taped. With the injury, Curry came back and made 31 of his 46 points. Even with Curry’s points, Golden State was down by two within the last few seconds. With only one second left and down by two, Warrior Andre Iguodala was fouled and able to sink both free throws placing Golden State in an overtime battle.
“The last second foul was the turning point of the game. Going into overtime with that momentum was game changing,” said junior and fan Nick Kilian.
The overtime was back to back with several points thrown all over the court. Then the unbelievable happened. With two seconds left in overtime, Curry delivered his record breaking 3-pointer that shocked the nation but more importantly, won the game.
“Curry’s game winner was incredible, I couldn’t believe my eyes,” Kilian said.
Overall, Curry set the new single season three-point record, tying the most threes in a game held by Kobe Bryant and Donyell Marshall while leading his team to victory.
